Speech Interface Board

The Speech Interface Board allows the CHIP-8 Computer to talk. It is compatable with the CHIP-8 Classic and Color Computers, or any other system that utilizes RS-485 serial Communications.

The board also incorporates the CHIP-8 Breakout circuitry which allows standard Video, Audio, and RS-485 connections. A 7.5VDC power supply is required to support the Speech Interface circuitry.

The chosen Speech Synthesizer for this application is an EMIC 2 module. It is sold by Parallax (www.parallax.com), and provides good quality audio with an excellent built-in TTS (Text-to-Speech) engine.

The EMIC 2 module attaches to the 6 pin header on the Speech Interface board. Speech output is available on the White RCA connector. This attaches to the Audio input of a TV or Monitor. The EMIC 2 module has a mono Audio output jack that can also be utilized if required.
